I customized my vehicle five years ago. With the help of our local auto mechanic and his team, we were able to change the engine, the tubes and color. We changed the muffler, and made sure the upholstery and dashboard had the top materials and items placed in my car.
Not only did that use up a big chunk of my savings, I had to borrow some more from my parents. I promised them, that although they think I was spending too much, I wanted them to see that the changes I was doing was for long term.
Now, five years after, my car is still in tip top shape.
With my second hand car, the performance would not be as good as it is now. I realized that the money we spent five years ago, may have been too high, compared to ordinary vehicle costs, in the long run, how your vehicle performs would be an indication of how well I have taken care of my vehicle.
In the past years, the cost in keeping the car maintained was a lot less. I only made sure oil was regularly changed and the every 6-month check ups were done on a regular basis.
Now I can honestly tell my parents, although the investment in the beginning was too high, choosing performance parts and accessories, in a higher price range, was actually a bigger savings in the later years.
